Sling on your back (Frog position)

We recommend these positions from the age of about 6 months when he is able to sit up by himself. Be sure to have someone else nearby to help you the first few times. After having practiced some manipulations on your back, first with a doll, then with the wrap, you can now try the technique that is best suited to you.  According to your level of comfort in the handling of your child, you will develop your own technique.

Always choose a moment when your child is calm, happy and doesn’t have any unmet needs while you try using the wrap. The first few times may require several tries and your child may become impatient depending on his mood. Both of you will learn to master a technique. With a little patience, the first obstacles will be things of the past.  Place your child on your back using the method that you feel at ease with.  The method proposed takes a little more dexterity and is used by people who handle their children with assurance and who feel at ease with their movements. This is a quick and easy way to put your baby on your back. We call this the crossed arms method because you must take your child by the shoulders in front of you and under the arms by crossing your arms between you and your child.

Here are the basic steps in understanding how to knot the sling on your back (Frog position):
First place the wrap on the back of your child with the shoulders well covered. This manoeuvre can be done with a baby more than 6 months old sitting on your leg.

Cross your arms and solidly grab the baby under his arms while taking all the material that was around his shoulders in your hand. When you grip the baby, make sure to hold him close to his own body so as not to pull his arms. Before you lift baby, make sure that the wrap is not twisted and that it falls loose on each side of you.

The next movement is to pass your child onto your back by lifting and uncrossing your arms over your head. If you don’t want to get all mixed up in the material, do a half-turn in place while baby stays still. Keep everything close to you while you pass under your arm. Place baby in the middle of your back and lean forward while letting baby slide down to the desired height.  Ask for help from another person when you lift your baby over the first few times. Always be careful and make sure not to pull on babies’ arms.
Cover the baby’s bottom up to the back of his knees with the material. To do this, bring his legs up so that his feet are pointing towards the front.

Pass one side of the wrap under a shoulder.

Pass the other side over the other shoulder.

You must hug your baby tightly against yourself so that he does not bend or slouch towards the free shoulder.

Make a knot directly over your chest. You can easily change shoulders regularly when you are tired.

It is frequent to see the child swing lightly to the side. This is one of the disadvantages of this position.  One must straighten up baby and retighten the wrap in this case.
