Cross wrap on your tummy

Here are the basic steps in understanding how to knot the cross wrap on your tummy:

Back to woven wrap

Place the middle of the wrap against your chest so that the top edges of the material pass directly under your arms.

Pass one side of the wrap under one arm and bring it around over your head to the other shoulder.

When the time is taken to make sure the wrap is straight across your back, there will be no twisting and will permit proper wrapping or knotting. It is also easier to do adjustments with the baby for better support.

Pick up all the material and make sure you keep the tension on it tight. The wrap must not be falling on your shoulder but must be accordion style.

Execute the same manoeuvre on the other side.

Bring the bottom edge of the wrap up to your waist. The baby will be very high against your chest (you will be able to give baby a kiss on the head without leaning down) it is unnecessary and encumbering to keep the wrap on your hip.

It is important to keep the wrap high enough on your chest with the material quite taut so that it does not sag on your hips or arms. To make sure the material is taut, take it from your neck and slide it downwards but keep it accordion style.

The edges of the wrap are made of different coloured ribbing to quickly identify the top or bottom portion of the wrap. The top portion, which supports babies’ head, almost always needs to be readjusted and tightened at the end. It is important to check the tension by pulling lightly on the edge that passes near the neck. You will then feel the top of the wrap tighten on your chest.

To tighten the bottom part of the wrap, one can pull the outer side upwards.

It is preferable to well adjust the wrap on your chest before inserting the baby.

After you have made all adjustments, with both hands, form a small pocket. Make only enough necessary place to insert the baby.
